We are grateful to The Peter J. Sharp Foundation, which generously donated $1.2 million to relocate and expand our Streetwork Program midtown drop-in center.
Since 1984, our Streetwork program has assisted literally thousands of homeless young people who have fallen between the cracks: too old to be taken in by child welfare, and too young for adult social services. After years on the streets, many are seriously at risk. They have high incidences of prostitution, street crime and drug use. They are at high risk for HIV infection, diseases, repeated incarceration and emotional and physical illness.
Our three Streetwork locations, the mid-town drop-in, the lower East side drop-in, and the Harlem overnight shelter, offer homeless youth basic necessities: a hot meal, a shower, clean clothes, a safe space to relax. Once their immediate needs are met, we offer group and individual counseling, art therapy, acupuncture and Internet access. We have lawyers on staff to help them with any legal issues that may be keeping them on the streets. When they are ready, we help them reconnect with their families or obtain permanent housing and medical services. Our goal is to meet these troubled youth at their level, and then help them toward self-sufficiency. Last year, Streetwork helped more than 7,500 homeless youth.

The extraordinary generosity of the following corporations, foundations and individual contributors enables us to help our clients and their families regain control over their lives.
