Safe Horizon is a leader in research on the needs and experiences of victims and survivors. We are also committed to a culture of evaluation that ensures our programs are providing the most effective services to meet our clients needs. The Research Division oversees and manages the assessment process of all of Safe Horizons programs in order to measure their effectiveness and to ensure that the evolving needs of our clients are met. In addition, Safe Horizons Research Division monitors trends on issues relevant to the organization to keep program staff informed on best practices.
The research department has conducted more than a dozen studies for the National Institute for Justice, as well as the State Justice Institute, the National Institute for Mental Health, the Center for Disease Control, and many other foundations. In 1991, the Child Sexual Abuse Public Policy Project Report, issued by Safe Horizon, helped draw attention to the re-victimization caused by the child sexual abuse investigative process, resulting in the creation of a model for a co-located Child Advocacy Center. Safe Horizon's Brooklyn Child Advocacy Center was developed based on this Report. |
